"The outrageous is the reasonable, if introduced politely..." —Charles Fort, Book of the Damned
Post hoc, ergo propter hoc―"...it happened after so it was caused by―a confusion of cause and effect." OneTinLeg's cover quote, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known," is the handiwork of Carl Sagan, astronomer (1934-1996). Dr. Sagan is reported to have said: "They laughed at Einstein. They laughed at the Wright Brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown."
Tahi's husband, Clyde and Lila's pop. Charlie Hunter may be heard on the Telarc, Ropeadope and Bluenote labels. A Tuesday's child: "...somebody said, 'You need to check out Charlie Parker and Charlie Christian and John Coltrane,' and it was like boom!" Charlie represents the author's foothold on the DNA Ladder of Fame.
Special thanks to Passamaquoddy flutist Rolfe Richter, whose haunting evocations of Native spirituality are the signature of the spirit-priest in Chimaera Constant and The Red Sneaker Zones. The music is from Mr. Richter's CD Dreamwalk and used by permission. Dreamwalk is a limited edition. You may get a copy from Rolfe Richter P.O. Box 88, Perry ME 04667.
A banjo player's banjo player―performer and composer of "Soddy Daisy," the setup and closing music for "Scope Virgin." Tony's avant-garde banjo sylings have inspired a whole generation of progressive bluegrass musicians; he is not only considered among the very best pickers, he is also one of the instrument's top teachers. On October 4, 2007 Tony won his three nominations at the International Bluegrass Music Awards―Instrumental Album of the Year, Recorded Event of the Year and Banjo Player of the Year.
Jazz Manouche, Gypsy Jazz―the music cues for "A Pass on the Tabouli." The Hot Club of San Francisco is an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli's pioneering Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements and original compositions from the group's superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling. Into its eleventh year, the Hot Club of San Francisco tours extensively in North America. You are invited to browse their offerings.
onetinleg.com's cover image, "Two of Swords," is the creation of this antipodean artist and banjo player. Anna W's brilliant, sardonic pen and ink characterizations seize the essence of any situation. When I first feasted eyes on "Two of Swords" in her gallery, I figured there had to be a story in the works. There is; watch for it here. Her "Feathered Hermit" is also the MP3 cover art for "The Red Sneaker Zones." From her home base of Sydney, NSW, Australia she works "...more or less full time at a cartooning company by day, cobbling together a few works for exhibitions by night, and plying my trade as a party cartoonist on the weekends." You are invited to enquire about her work.
Empirical oddities. You are cordially invited to use any idea here strictly at your own risk: "Who lacks wealth, cunning, office, brawn, beauty, charm or brains must live by sheer dumb luck alone..." As author, Marty Langeland claims first refusal on the words. If you figure out how to make money with them, he wants some. Astrology, Newtonian physics and fine dining. Such as Molly Ivins' Texas bean recipes―"The most amazing part of cow college was meeting the cow whisperer..." You are welcome to quote, with attribution.
Sara is a Canadian Artist presently residing in Wakefield, Québec―"My work has always been realistic and I choose my subject matter as it relates to an emotional expression. In my most recent series, animals and nature are the theme. I have a deep affinity with both of these, and lately I see that what was once so common and so familiar is changing rapidly, quickly and quietly slipping away. Vanishing. I think I try to capture the animals and birds, somehow, to make them permanent within myself. They each represent something for me as well. Swiftness, canniness, sometimes savagery, as nature is savage, and we too are a part of this savage beauty." Sara's painting "Zen Crow" is the graphic signature for the tale Scope Virgin.
Anna Haferman is the proprietrix. Outsider Art, Nashville Moments, Food & Drink, Celebrities Are Smarter than You and Me, Mrs. Butterworth and Mr. Sneekers. And― "...what's a unicorn gotta do to get a drink around here? Seriously, it must be hard to and drink out of a shallow puddle, especially if by virtue of your mythic species you possess a certain footloose and fancy-free spirit. This must be why unicorns are 'extinct.' They all died of thirst."

One of God's gentlemen. Dave and I palled around in Greenwich Village in the 60's folk scare; we carried guitar cases and loved the blues. The blues loved Dave better and I became a radio engineer. Dave is still playing. "He (David) was one of the pioneers of the era on electric keyboard. The sound of his keyboard defined the Country Joe and the Fish sound." ―Joe McDonald
Elizabeth is a sculptor who resides on Moose Island (Eastport), Maine. "I think of my sculptures, paintings, and collages, as connections and conversations between reality and fantasy," she trills. She is the creative engine behind the originals of "Francie's Song to the Birds" and "Rapturous," the cover art and MP3 links for the tales Facelift and E Pluribus Human, and dean and docent of the Ostrander Studio Gallery and Sculpture Garden, a world of mermaids, goddesses, green men, and other joyous beings celebrating nature, myth, and spirit.
